You may want to know when or how or why I started blogging? Well, blogging was never really a thing I considered seriously when I quit my corporate job in 2015. It was probably because it wasn't something I was familiar with. Sure, I knew of people who write about their life experiences, with some focusing on family and others on business while others chose to share more on health and so forth. I read mostly self-help books. Infact, self-help books are the only genre of books I truly enjoy reading. They range from spiritual to business and relationships.
I'm not much of a writer myself but I know that through the various stages of my life, writing has always offered me some kind of healing. If I happened to experience something challenging or painful in my life, I would write about it. I would write a letter that was either addressed to myself or the person who may have been the cause of my pain. I'm usually the only person who reads these letters because I never send them to the people I was addressing them to. They stay in my 'drafts' folder and I simply refer to them every now and then when I want to reflect on the journey. Writing in this way has been a great way for me to heal through any painful experience. With the rise of social media, I found that I write a lot on public platforms when I have something amazing to share because I want to inspire people to believe in the beauty of life. In 2016, I started a blog. The theme was pretty much the same as what I have here - Travel. I wrote a few posts but I never shared the blog with anyone, I never made it public (even though that was my plan). I wanted to write at least 10 posts before going public with my page but even though I had a lot of content to share, blogging was just not my focus at that time. I had just launched my fashion business (Flair Collection), which demanded a lot from me as I was running it solo.
Things are different his time around. I made my blog public with the very first post I wrote, incomplete as it was. I guess I was trying to make a commitment to blogging. I figured, I could always come back and fine-tune my content. I know now that I want to blog and so I have decided to change a few things. Just to prove how serious I am about my blogging, I've even written a book - How to travel to 20 countries and 50 cities in 5 years! Infact, let me be honest - the book pushed me to start blogging because I realized that it was impossible to write about everything in my book and there are so many things I want to share. My aim was to keep the book concise and so that meant keeping my stories tight. Here, I'll have a little more room to just chat about the funny travel stories, the scary ones, the awe-inspiring moments, my overall love for travel and everything in-between.
The 'about me tab' won't have much details about my background but here it goes:
I'm a pure-breed Pedi girl (both my parents are Pedi). I was raised in the township of Seshego, Limpopo. I have 3 siblings - 2 big sisters and a younger brother. I married a (pure-breed) Pedi man and we have 2 (adult) children. I grew up with dreams of becoming a beauty queen despite being painfully shy. When I realized that my shyness wasn't going to help me win on the ramp I redirected my dreams to something more 'respectable' and I started to dream of myself as a medical doctor. I kept this dream alive until my last years of high school when I realized that the amount of effort it took for me to get a good grade in Physical Science did not match the grades I actually got. It was worse when I learned that Physical Science was actually a mandatory course for every medical student. So, the fact that I was struggling with this subject at high school level made it difficult for me to imagine the struggle continuing beyond that. I simply couldn't put myself through the torture any longer. I did stay within the science field though. I graduated with my Bachelors degree in Science, with Microbiology and Biochemistry as my majors. I loved the journey and I loved the first jobs that I did as a fresh science graduate but little did I know that I would change my career altogether 4 years down the line. I was drawn into the world of marketing. I got in without any experience or qualification purely because someone chose to believe me when I said I could do it. The rest is history. My climb up the corporate ladder happened over a 12-year marketing career right up to the end of my corporate life, just before the end of 2015.
My life of (international) travel started late in life (in my opinion). As a family, my parents took us on numerous holidays locally but I only experienced international travel in my twenties. I speak about this in my book but I will share specific experiences on my blog. My book will be released at the end of October, 2018 and I use the book to inspire people to travel more but I want to use my blog to share my many travel experiences. Experiences which will hopefully entertain you, enlighten you and broaden your views on travel. I'm also working on a business venture in travel, hence the logo, which is a work in progress. You'll be the first to know once all the details are concluded. I hope you'll enjoy this blog.
