Loerie's Call - The Perfect Hideout
Loerie's Call Pool Area |
Loerie's Call remains one of my favorite establishments and certainly one of my preferred accommodation spots in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga. It helps that it's in 1 of my favorite provinces too. My husband discovered it in the years before we met. We stayed here together for the first time on one of our December vacations and I was instantly sold! We visited again with another couple about a year later and I seemed to love the place even more. It’s a small, boutique guesthouse, which has since expanded with a block of apartments on the other side. Before the extension, I loved how intimate the place was. They have very few rooms and that alone means it’s never crowded. At the most, I’ve seen a total of 6 people at breakfast. The owners were also the hosts and would engage with everyone at breakfast. They aim to please and will go out of their way to make you feel special. As much as they set a menu for breakfast, like most guesthouses do, you’d still have room to change things to suit you.
Each room is styled differently |
When we stayed here, we would hardly do much during the day except hanging out by the pool, hubby braaing some meat, playing a few rounds of scrabble and of course cooling off in the pool every now and then because the heat out there can be extreme. I think this was another reason I loved the guesthouse because for the most part it felt like we 'owned' the place. I guess most guests would be out on excursions and we would have the whole pool area to ourselves, the whole day.
The apartment side of the property has a restaurant just outside the main building and this is where we would go for dinner. This property (along with the guesthouse) is perched on a hill, giving it the most beautiful views of the city, which are even more spectacular at night, with all the lights shining brilliantly across the hilly landscape.
Each room is styled differently but they are all very elegant and contemporary |
We try not to stay at Loerie's each time we visit Mpumalanga because we don't want the novelty of it to wear off. I'm glad we did this because when we visited again this past month (March, 2019), after a 5yr 'break', it was once again, just like visiting for the very first time! My jaw dropped as we walked in past the entrance to the pool area. I was convinced they had done some renovations even though everything looked familiar but the truth is that they've kept everything as it was all these years. They just really look after the place and maintain its high levels of prestige. The 1 place they seem to have definitely renovated is their main restaurant (Orange) because they've closed off the pool and turned it into a lovely deck with the most perfect city views. Although I was disappointed that they didn't have the pool anymore, they really were creative in the use of the space. Besides, they have a lovely pool right next door, which is much more private for people to comfortably relax in.
