Macarons or Macaroons?
|
Macarons or macaroons? They are light and fluffy. Pretty and pretty sweet. They are creamy and delightful but I don't know if I'm the only one who's confused by the origins of these very tasty and pretty cookies? For a long time I thought macaroons were French but when I read up a little on the net, I discovered it's actually a lot more confusing than I imagined. It boils down to the method of preparation as well as the ingredients used to get the final product because macaroons originated in Italy but the preparation and ingredients used to create them were subsequently adapted in other countries, by the French and Swiss in particular. I'm not much of a baker, so I won't even try to break it down to the finer details. All I wanted to say is that these colourful goodies are so tasty and so sweet, you must try them on your trip to France (or Italy)! The reason why I always thought they originated from France was because Paris was the first time I saw so many of them at once. I never saw macaroons (or macarons) anywhere in Italy. Interesting. But like I said, there are some technical details that explain the difference, which I will not attempt to dissect. All I know is that they are pleasing to the eye just as they are to the palette but that's if you have a sweet too like me.
