The spiciest noodles I ever ate! |
|
When you eat trotters in that are so tasty you completely forget about all the things people have told you about Chinese cuisine. |
We did many things in China, we also explored local cuisines despite the fear of being served snake or dog meat. These were the tastiest dishes we had in China, Beijing. The trotters came tops even though we still don't know their origin. If I ever go back to Beijing, I'll look for this same restaurant just to order this exact same dish again. This also happens to be one of the very few occasions where I managed to convince my husband to eat local food instead of KFC or McDonald! He said it was worth it. The funny part was there was an absolute break in communication between us and our waitress. She didn't speak a word of English and of course we don't speak any Chinese! I don't know how the whole transaction happened - from us giving her our orders to her serving us. I don't even remember if the menu was in English. It's highly possible we were in a 100% Chinese restaurant and she could have just pointed items on the menu as a way of recommending what we could eat. I'm trying to find a picture of the menu among the thousands of pictures in my gallery. I'm hoping to find it. That will answer a lot of questions but for now, my recollection of the evening is as accurate as I can imagine.
We had never seen black noodles before, let alone eat them. We had never tasted such spicy (and hot) noodles before. My husband's palette is quite delicate. He doesn't take too well to spicy food but the noodles were so tasty he eventually got comfortable with the sounds he made as he ate - he could no longer hold anything back. I was just entertained!
